ST. FRANCIS INDIAN SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION

 My name is Calvin Waln Jr. and also known as Hawkeye.  I received a countless amount of calls requesting me to run for the St. Francis Indian School Board.  On August 25, 2022 when we all go vote for our Community Officer's, we will also be voting for two St. Francis School Board seats.  I am humbly asking for your vote on August 25, 2022 to be elected to the St. Francis School Board.  If elected, this is what I will do as a St. Francis Indian School Board Member;

1.    Make St. Francis Indian School Students Educational Priorities Are Fulfilled

2.    Make Sure ALL Parents Have A Voice About SFIS Student Education

3.    Make Sure the SFIC Policy and Procedures Are Followed and Enforced Equally

4.    Ensure SFIS Staff Can Express Concerns Without Fear of Retaliation

5.    Ensure SFIS Is In Full Compliance In Relation to Annual Reviews

6.    I'm Not Afraid To Address Tough Issues Inconsistent With Policy And Procedures

7.    I Will Not Be Intimidated By Anyone

8.    Ensure the SFIS Board Is Enforcing Policies and Procedures Fairly No Matter Who You Are

9.    Be Fully Transparent to Community and Tribe Regarding SFIS Pubic Meeting

10.  Provide a Monthly Report for the SFIS Parents and the Tribe For All To Read

11.  Report And Disclose Any Acts Inconsistent With SFIS Policy And Procedures Or The Law

12.  Present the Whistleblower Act TO Be Approved as Part of Policy And Procedures

I'm a very outspoke person, I firmly believe in Civil Rights and everyone has equal application, opportunity, and protection under the law.  I will not be a SFIS Board Member who will be intimidated and fall in line and do the bidding for invested individuals.  I will restore the lost integrity and trust back into SFIS.  I have thick skin and understand construct criticism comes among with being a School Board Member.

When addressing tough issues, I will not back down or be intimidated while being criticized by a loud person.  If a person is criticizing me on matters inconsistent with Policy and Procedures, no matter the person, I will tell them they are wrong and remind them of the policy and procedures they are ignoring.

Two very smart Tribal Members once told me, if you are going to ask the people for support or a vote, you better know what you are getting yourself into.  I was told to read, educate yourself for the position you are seeking to be elected for.  Well, I have read the SFIS Charter and Policies and Procedure several times. I will continue to read them until I have them memorized and can recite them verbatim.  Many times I see people in elected positions allow emotions to dictate them in irrational decision making.  Emotions are not a rational defense to violated Policy and Procedures, a persons rights, or fall into the do as I say, not as I do ideology.

For many decades we have placed trust and believed people who are seeking to be elected.  When the person gets elected, they forget about what they told us and fall to the colonized elected mentality and forget about all of us.  Perceive power or authority changes people, they allow this perceived power and authority control them and they become a politician.

The difference between a Politician and a leader is, a politician is invested in a group of individuals and develop tunnels vision and become self-serving.  A leader is invested in everyone and the people they serve, they thrive to accomplish set goals.  We have a lot of politicians and very few leaders any more.  I assure you I'm not a politician  and I never will be a politician.  I will be a leader if elected and I will show you leadership everyday as a SFIS Board Member.  I will provide strong leadership for the SFIS Students, Parents, Community, and most important, the image of the St. Francis Indian School to be a sound and positive educational setting for the past and future.  With strong leadership, we can make SFIS great.

I humbly as for your vote on August 25, 2022 for the St. Francis Indian School Board.  VOTE Calvin "Hawkeye" Waln Jr.

Respectfully,

Hawkeye Waln
